Blackmagic Camera 3.4 Update Enhances Android Production Capabilities

Blackmagic Camera 3.4 Update Enhances Android Production CapabilitiesThe recent release of Blackmagic Camera version 3.4 introduces increased flexibility for Android devices, optimizing them for diverse production environments.

Blackmagic Design has once again broadened the capabilities of its camera app. The latest update responds to user feedback by adding features that make Android smartphones running the app even more adaptable in various production scenarios.

The new 3.4 version now includes features such as 4K HDMI output with audio, camera control via the WearOS companion app, and remote management through a REST API. Other enhancements include continuous recording pause, Blackmagic Focus and Zoom demand support, and improved proxy clip management.

This update allows Android phones using the Blackmagic Camera app to be more effectively used in challenging production settings. Whether cameras are positioned in hard-to-reach areas or operators need to manage recordings remotely, the 4K HDMI output with audio enables connections to external displays, switchers, or recorders, maintaining high-quality image feeds.

With camera control compatibility for WearOS, users can easily manage recording from a smartwatch when the phone is set in inaccessible places like rigs, vehicles, or gimbals. Additionally, the REST API remote control and the newly introduced Remote Camera Manager simplify the coordination of multi-camera workflows, enabling centralized management of multiple Android devices.

The update also incorporates the continuous recording pause feature, allowing users to pause and resume recording seamlessly without starting a new clip each time, an asset for long-duration recordings such as interviews, events, or behind-the-scenes footage.

Furthermore, Blackmagic Camera for Android 3.4 includes support for Blackmagic Focus and Zoom demands, remote functionality for the Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive, a new proxy clip manager, and PCM audio options. There are also enhancements to LUT handling on certain Android devices, along with overall performance and stability improvements.
