The latest update to Blackmagic Camera, version 3.4, significantly enhances the flexibility of Android phones in production workflows.
Blackmagic Design is broadening the capabilities of its app with this new release, which incorporates several user-suggested features that enhance smartphone usability in various production environments.
The new version 3.4 introduces 4K HDMI output with audio, WearOS app camera control, and remote control through REST API. It also offers continuous recording pause, Blackmagic Focus and Zoom demand support, proxy clip management, and more.
This enhancement allows Android devices with Blackmagic Camera to be integrated into diverse production scenarios, from hard-to-reach camera setups to situations where remote monitoring and control are necessary. The 4K HDMI video with audio output enables connections to external monitors, switchers, or recorders, maintaining high image quality from the phone.
With WearOS camera control, recording can be started or stopped conveniently from your wrist, even if the phone is mounted on difficult-to-access equipment like rigs, vehicles, or gimbals. Additionally, the REST API remote control and the new Remote Camera Manager facilitate multi-camera workflows, allowing centralized management of several Android devices.
The update also introduces a continuous recording pause feature, simplifying the management of long shoots such as interviews or events by allowing you to pause and resume recording without creating new clips each time.
Moreover, Blackmagic Camera for Android 3.4 supports Blackmagic Focus and Zoom demands, provides remote support for Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive, includes a new proxy clip manager, and offers a PCM audio option. Improvements have also been made to LUT handling on some Android devices, along with general performance and stability enhancements.
