Kodak EC35: Reviving the Classic Slide Cover in a Modern 35mm Film Camera

Kodak’s latest offering, the EC35 35mm film camera, is a nostalgic nod to the classic design of slide covers, brought to you by Reto, the creators of the popular Kodak Charmera and the Snapic A1. This new camera is designed for ease of use and visual appeal, making it a perfect “everyday carry” for film enthusiasts looking for simplicity and charm. The EC35 is a straightforward point-and-shoot model that emphasizes the joy of photography by minimizing complexity. It features manual wind and rewind, a fixed 1/100 second shutter speed, and a 25mm lens with a fixed f/10 aperture. The camera also includes an electronic flash powered by a single AA alkaline battery. Lightweight at 102 grams, the EC35’s dimensions are 119mm by 65mm by 41.5mm. With its basic optical viewfinder positioned above the lens, the camera’s key attraction lies in its aesthetics and usability rather than groundbreaking technological advancements.

Reto’s marketing focuses on the EC35’s look and feel, offering it in seven vibrant colors: midnight black, vanilla white, butter yellow, lavender, powder blue, blush pink, and avocado green. The camera’s standout feature is undoubtedly its tactile slide cover, which snaps over the optical viewfinder and lens to protect them, reminiscent of the slide covers popular in the film and early digital eras. Reto describes the camera as having “a tactile slide cover for instant protection and a built-in flash, designed to be tossed in your bag and ready for every golden moment.”

Available for purchase individually or as a bundle with a strap and a 24-frame roll of Kodak Ultramax 400 (battery not included), this release marks Reto’s most significant collaboration with the Kodak brand to date, pairing the camera with film manufactured by Eastman Kodak. The EC35 is available starting today, priced at $35 for the camera alone or $45 for the bundle.
