Reto, the innovative company behind the famous Kodak Charmera and the acclaimed Snapic A1, has introduced its latest creation—the EC35 35mm film camera. This new model is designed as an “everyday carry” compact camera, making a statement with its simplicity and visual appeal. The EC35, available brand new at B&H or pre-owned at KEH.com, is a straightforward point-and-shoot camera. Its user-friendly design simplifies film photography, bringing back the sheer delight of capturing each frame without the hassle.
Mirroring the experience of using a disposable camera, the EC35 features manual wind and rewind functions, a fixed 1/100 second shutter speed, and a 25mm lens with a set f/10 aperture. Additionally, it includes an electronic flash powered by a single AA alkaline battery. Weighing just 102 grams and measuring 119mm by 65mm by 41.5mm, this all-plastic camera is lightweight and portable. Its optical viewfinder is a basic window positioned above the lens.
While the EC35’s technical specifications don’t introduce groundbreaking innovations, Reto’s marketing strategy focuses entirely on its aesthetic and tactile charm. The camera is available in seven attractive colors: midnight black, vanilla white, butter yellow, lavender, powder blue, blush pink, and avocado green. A standout feature is its tactile slide cover, reminiscent of the original “fidget spinners,” which snaps into place to protect the lens and viewfinder when not in use. Such designs were common during the film and early digital eras but are rare today.
Reto emphasizes that the EC35, with its slide cover and built-in flash, is designed to be tossed in a bag and ready for capturing any memorable moment. Customers can purchase the Kodak EC35 35mm film camera on its own or opt for a bundle that includes the camera, a strap, and a roll of Kodak Ultramax 400 film, although a battery is not part of the package.
This release signifies Reto’s strongest partnership with Kodak to date, combining their branded camera with genuine Kodak film products. The camera is now available for purchase at $35 on its own or $45 with the film bundle. Image credits go to Reto Analog.
