Kodak EC35: Reviving the Classic Slide Cover in 35mm Film Cameras

Reto, the brand renowned for its viral Kodak Charmera and the unexpectedly impressive Snapic A1, has unveiled the Kodak EC35—a 35mm film camera crafted to be a stylish and user-friendly “everyday carry.” With a focus on simplicity, this compact camera aims to bring the joy back to film photography by eliminating complexities, making it ideal for beginners.

Equipped with manual wind and rewind features, the EC35 functions much like a disposable camera, featuring a fixed 1/100 second shutter speed and a 25mm lens with a fixed f/10 aperture. An electronic flash, powered by a single AA alkaline battery, adds to its basic but functional design. Weighing only 102 grams and measuring 119mm by 65mm by 41.5mm, this all-plastic camera is easy to carry around. Its optical viewfinder is a straightforward window positioned above the lens.

While the EC35 doesn’t push technological boundaries, Reto’s marketing emphasizes its aesthetic appeal and user experience. Available in a variety of colors—midnight black, vanilla white, butter yellow, lavender, powder blue, blush pink, and avocado green—the camera stands out with its nostalgic design. The most striking feature is its slide cover, which serves as a protective shield for the lens and viewfinder when not in use. This design element is reminiscent of a bygone era, adding a tactile aspect similar to fidget spinners.

Reto describes this camera as having a “tactile slide cover for instant protection and a built-in flash, making it perfect for spontaneous photography moments on the go.” The Kodak EC35 is available for purchase either as a standalone product or bundled with a strap and a 24-frame roll of Kodak Ultramax 400 film, though the battery is not included.

This launch marks Reto’s strongest collaboration with Kodak to date, pairing the camera with Kodak-manufactured film. Priced at $35 for the camera alone or $45 with the film bundle, the Kodak EC35 is now available for purchase.
