Godox has introduced the KNOWLED AM800R, an innovative 800W full-color LED light featuring a 4’×4′ (1.2 x 1.2m) inflatable mat design. This fixture boasts a broad CCT range from 1,800K to 10,000K and offers IP65 weatherproofing for its light body and controller. Initially showcased at NAB 2026, this product can be inflated to 8 PSI in about a minute and is currently available for pre-order at $3,990.
The AM800R marks the latest addition to Godox’s expanding KNOWLED series. Previously, the company unveiled similar inflatables, such as the 4’×8′ and 8’×8′ models, and has continually grown its lineup with models like the D, B, and the newly released s. The AM800R’s 4’×4′ size is particularly favored by gaffers for its versatility in interviews, commercials, and medium-sized narrative productions.

Revolutionary Inflatable Design
Echoing the larger AM1600R model, the AM800R replaces traditional aluminum frames with an inflatable butterfly airframe, which takes just one minute to inflate to 8 PSI. Godox claims it can maintain its shape for up to 15 days, making it ideal for extended shoots without needing re-inflation. The light body alone measures 120 x 120cm (4 x 4ft) and weighs 4.95kg (10.9 lb), with the separate controller adding 6.40kg (14.1 lb) and measuring 31.5 x 18 x 14cm (12.4 x 7.1 x 5.5in).

Built to endure production demands, the AM800R features reinforced construction with a carbon fiber backplate to support the flexible PCB, thereby minimizing deformation stress. The durable airframe fabric is resistant to scratches and abrasions from frequent handling. While these are manufacturer claims, their design addresses potential issues with inflatable structures on active sets. Should a puncture occur, a repair kit is provided, and the replaceable LED modules help minimize long-term costs for rental companies.

Versatile Color Capabilities and Customizable Diffusion
The AM800R is equipped with a full-color engine, adhering to the proven KNOWLED framework. Its CCT spans from 1,800K to 10,000K, with a green/magenta adjustment range from -100 to +100. The fixture supports CCT, HSI, RGBW, GEL, X-Y, and FX modes, offering 12 integrated effects. It boasts a CRI of around 96, a TLCI of 98, and a TM-30 Rf of 96, though these figures require independent verification. Dimming ranges from 0 to 100% with options for linear, S-curve, exponential, and logarithmic curves.

Light diffusion is customizable with detachable microstructure diffusion fabrics, available in three variants (D11-32, D11-32+, D13-30+) for varying softness levels. A honeycomb grid (model AF44G) is included to minimize spill and focus the beam, particularly useful when the mat is positioned close to subjects to prevent lighting the background.

Flexible Rigging and Robust Weather Resistance
Thanks to its lightweight design, the AM800R supports various rigging methods, including truss-free, floor-mounted, and boom-arm setups. It comes with a foldable U-bracket featuring a quick-mount design and a 300° adjustment range. High-strength D-rings around the edges allow multiple units to be linked, creating larger lighting surfaces akin to the fixed sizes of the AM1600R, with combinations forming 4’×8′ or 8’×8′ sources.

The IP65 rating, covering both the light and controller, is a significant improvement from the AM1600R’s IP54. This level of weatherproofing eliminates the need for rain covers, easing wet-weather operations. The fixture operates in temperatures from -20°C to 45°C (-4°F to 113°F) and runs on 110-240V AC at 800W. It includes an 8m (26.2ft) DC cable attached to the body to keep the controller out of view.

Comprehensive Control and Connectivity
Control options are extensive, featuring wired DMX/RDM, wireless CRMX, and Ethernet with Art-Net and sACN for console-driven setups. The Godox KNOWLED app provides Bluetooth control within a 60m (197ft) range, and onboard controls are accessible via the controller unit. Firmware updates are managed through a USB-A port, which also serves as a 5V power source.
The AM800R 44K kit includes the light body with a built-in DC cable, the controller, folding yoke, grid, diffusion fabrics, an air pump, a repair kit, an AC power cable, and a custom flight case. Everything fits into the single case, simplifying transport compared to traditional 4’×4′ frames with separate components.
Our previous discussions with Godox at IBC 2025 highlighted the company’s strategy in the professional lighting space, particularly in the high-output segment. The AM800R continues this trend in the soft light category, showcasing the potential of inflatable designs.
Pre-orders for the Godox KNOWLED AM800R are priced at $3,990. Pricing may differ by region due to VAT and other local taxes. Additional details can be found on their official site.
